Abundance:

Fairly common.

Presumed range in Ohio

Migratory Status: Year-round resident.

Variation: Four subspecies. Ours is the eastern race (B. l. lineatus). Female is larger. Ontogenic variation (see above).

Habitat: Woodlands of all kinds, but especially likes woods bordering swamps or rivers, or along wooded creek-sides. Less common in uplands.

Breeding: Bulky stick nest is in the fork of a tree about 20–40 feet high and often near water. Two to four eggs in April.
